Book Review: "Minnesota Wrecking Crew: A Brief History of the Anderson Family in Wrestling.&quo
Originally presented at Canadian Bulldog's World. Jim Crockett Promotions (later sold to Ted Turner and renamed World Championship Wrestling) was one of the most prestigious promotions during the territory era featuring a who’s who of wrestling’s elite (and future elite). JCP ‘s original focus was on tag team wrestling but by the early 70’s, it was shifting to singles competition as well. That didn’t mean the territory lacked for great teams though. A look at the promotion’s

“Science Fiction and Fantasy Films: Overlap in the Undiscovered Country”
Science fiction and fantasy films have individual defining characteristics but they also have characteristics that overlap between them. This overlap can be seen in science fiction and fantasy films, including The Matrix. Overlapping characteristics include an emphasis on the unknown, the journey or quest plot, and the use of stock characters, particularly outsiders and people thrown into a situation where they must save the day, often reluctantly. Book Review: "Brave and the Bold" Omnibus. DC Collects Classic Batman Team-Ups in High-Qua
It’s never been a better time to be a comic book fan if you enjoy the comics of yesteryear. The popularity of Marvel and DC on the small screen and silver screen may have something to do with publishers pumping out so many reprints from their archives. Memphis Madness: Professional Wrestling's Craziest Territory
Originally presented at Canadian Bulldog's World. Recently, I reviewed It’s Good to be the King: The Jerry Lawler Story, an excellent WWE home video documenting the career of Jerry “The King” Lawler. Jerry Lawler worked in the Memphis area for a large part of his career and while the video focuses on this area, there’s just too much to cover in one hour and twenty two minutes. Memphis wrestling. A territory that is still fondly remembered by its fans for its exciting matches,

Magical Realism and "The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao."
Junot Diaz’ The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao is a work rich in fantasy worlds, with characters’ lives blurring the line between fantasy and reality. While Oscar Wao seems immersed in a world of make-believe, it can be argued that Belicia (“Beli”), Yunior, and Abelard are the characters lost in fantasy worlds. The novel contains magical realism, an element sometimes found in postmodernist literature. This blurring of fantasy and reality lead the reader to question which ch

The Birth of "The Great American Bash." Part Two of Two.
Originally presented at Canadian Bulldog's World. The year was 1985. Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP)’s golden anniversary was being celebrated with a stadium show known as The Great American Bash. As we saw last time, the show was a star-studded event with top stars battling one another, not only from the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) but from the American Wrestling Association (AWA). The NWA and AWA were teaming up to fight off Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Federation (W
